ELETTROFLOTTAZIONE® is proposed as a modular upstream stage for variable landfill leachate: it targets suspended and colloidal matter, emulsified fractions and separable metals before the membrane train.
01 · Process challenge
Landfill leachate is a variable matrix containing dissolved and suspended organics, humic substances, ammoniacal nitrogen, salts, solids and metals. Age, rainfall, recirculation and landfill operation can change its composition over time. A single treatment stage is therefore rarely sufficient for every separation objective.
Fine and destabilised particles can increase the fouling load reaching UF and RO.
Hydrophobic and emulsified compounds may be difficult to control through coarse mechanical filtration alone.
Changes in concentration and composition can shift pressure, flux, cleaning frequency and recovery.
Pretreatment should reduce avoidable load while preserving UF/RO as the final separation barrier.

04 · Validation pathway
Performance depends on the actual leachate, electrode configuration, current density, hydraulic retention time and downstream objectives. No industrial guarantee should therefore be based on generic literature values alone.
Define variability, analytical baseline and membrane constraints.
Identify a technically credible operating window on the actual liquid.
Verify continuous operation, mass balance, sludge behaviour and downstream water quality.
Translate validated data into capacity, redundancy, electrical power and interfaces.
05 · For membrane-system integrators
The collaboration can include application screening, test planning, process design, ETF module supply, P&ID interfaces, commissioning, training and performance verification. Project-specific integration keeps the membrane supplier in control of the complete treatment line while preserving specialist ETF know-how.
06 · Independent technical basis
Published research supports combined electrochemical and membrane processes for complex wastewater and landfill leachate. Site-specific testing remains necessary before selecting or guaranteeing an industrial configuration.
